Development of Facility Dynamic Prototypes (Standardized Facility Designs) for the Air Force using e-SPECS

Portland, Maine - July 16, 2009 - The Air Force Center for Engineering and the Environment (AFCEE) awarded an A/E firm a task order to develop facility dynamic prototypes for unaccompanied enlisted dormitories. The task order was to develop electronic prototype designs for enlisted dormitories for use as design standards and for use by design teams developing projects for the AF MILCON Program and other non-MILCON design and construction projects. The work included developing an electronic design tool to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the design process across the Air Force.

Among other services included in the task order was the integration of the Air Force best facility design practices to maximize design and construction cost effectiveness. This aided in the preparation of electronic 3-dimensional design models to update the Air Force design guides to the next level/next generation of "smart" interactive dynamic prototypes. The 3-dimensional design models were to also be linked to performance-based specifications. The A/E firm chose to use e-SPECS for Revit and Autodesk's Revit Architecture and MEP products with MasterSpec performance-based specifications and has completed the enlisted dormitory prototypes at the date of this release.

InterSpec's patented e-SPECS software solutions automate the preparation of construction specifications and selection of products and materials that are incorporated into commercial construction projects.
